Primary Summer Program (Ages 3 to 5) Elementary Summer Program (Ages 6 to 9)
Summer is For Discovery!Your child can spend the summer experiencing and experimenting with everything from flour to clay! Week 1 – Masquerade! Week 2 – “FUN”ctional Art! Weeks 3 & 4 – Creative Recycling! Week 5 – Art In 3-D! Week 6 – Versatile Fibers!
Weeks 7 & 8 – Stirring It Up! Each week will feature preparation of various culinary projects and healthy snacks. Occasionally we will venture out on field trips or have an on-site presenter relevant to our weekly theme. We find children enjoy what we are doing because it is reality-based, utilizes their talents, perfects their skills and is fun. Each group will be limited to 12 children. MDS primary assistant, Shirley Karkow and MDS elementary assistant, Jennifer Johnson, will be leading this program. The weekly sessions run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The weekly fee is $175, except for Week 2. Due to the July 4th holiday, that session is four days and is priced at $145. Summer of Discovery
A summer experience for 6 to 10 year olds
From simple finger puppets to exciting masks, art will come to life during this week. Using their imaginations, and a variety of materials, children will be able to explore ways that theater and art intersect.
Bring creativity and beauty into your everyday life! Creating art that is both interesting and functional will be the focus of week 2.
Projects, projects, projects! In weeks 3 & 4 children will have the opportunity to take everyday objects and repurpose them in artful ways. Everything from old silverware to discarded t-shirts will find a new and creative life.
Sculpture takes precedence in week 5! Students will be able to experiment with different types of sculpting media. They will be creating sculptures using everything from clay to wood.
Children never tire of discovering the wonder of fibers. Week 6 will be dedicated to the exploration of natural fibers. Papermaking, dyeing and printing on fabric are just a few activities we will try!
Our most popular theme for years! Your child can spend weeks 7 & 8 chopping, mixing, blending, baking—and of course tasting! The program culminates in week 8 with our annual trip to the farmers’ market to meet the people who grow our food and to raise money for the local soup kitchen.
